The Menopause Study

Improving Experiences of the Menopause for Women in Zimbabwe and South Africa: Co-Producing an Information Resource

Primary Investigator: Prof Celia Gregson

This study produced relevant resources—booklets and poster—about menopause with women in Zimbabwe and South Africa. The study was conducted in four stages:

  • First, we spoke to midlife women in Zimbabwe and South Africa to find out about their experiences and views of menopause, the impact on their lives and asked if there was any information they wanted to find out.
  • Next, we developed prototype information resources with a range of stakeholders comprising booklets and a poster with relevant images and information.
  • We then carried out workshops with midlife women in both countries to ask for their views on the resources and suggest changes.
  • Finally, the resources were refined in collaboration with stakeholders and translated into relevant African languages. Resources were endorsed by the Ministry of Health and Child Care in Zimbabwe and the South African Menopause Society in South Africa.

Resources that we produced in the study are now widely and freely available through several organisations. You can access all of our resources by using the following links:
